Property Intro

This project was initiated in search of an answer to the question of how humans can maintain their mental balance and live comfortably in metropolitan areas like Tokyo, where society becomes increasingly information oriented. Preservation of nature, creation of pure and clean space, elimination of luxury and pursue of simplicity, were our main cues. Our vision was a space that promotes the relaxation of the body and encourages the healing power of the mind. We envisioned a home built around a den, a natural stress reliever. Our challenge was to apply to the form and space of modern cities the characteristics of old Chinese literacy figures, in terms of residential form, lifestyle and attitude towards the appreciation of nature through the maximum use of the senses. For this project Sy Chen and Yukiharu Takematsu won the Residential Architecture Award from the Tokyo Society of Architects and Building Engineers.
